The real part of the story I want to look at though is this quote here:
“Sander’s case drew wide attention after it was revealed that she appeared on a popular adult Web site under the name Zoey Zane. In some photographs, she appears merely scantily clad in lingerie or cowgirl outfits. Other pictures, some of which require viewers to pay for, are more explicit, showing her nude, fondling herself and posing with other women.”
Why is it that no one [the media] cared about this poor girl before they found the right angle?
I can hear the conversation:
“You mean that girl gets naked on the computer?”
“Well, hell we should right a story about that.”
“Get on it, this isn’t your regular disappearance, people will read about this one.”
Sad, just sad…

is it really the fault of the two people in your imagined conversation? I say the poignant part is that last satement “…This isnt your regular dissapearance, people will read about this one.” They HAVE to find an angle or else noone will read it anyway. Even if they were self-righteous and printed stories with no angle, would it make a difference when noone read them?
